CASE HISTORY
The company C. had to chose if it was preferable to use pre-terminated cables or to assemble connectors "on field" in an Ethernet installation.
Typical links were 30m long, with one hundred links overall.
It was made the following table:
|
Laying time |
Termination time |
Total laying time |
Total termination time |
| Pre-terminated cables |
40 meters/hour |
0 |
100(sections)*30(m)/40(meters/hour) |
0 |
| Non- terminated cables |
60 meters/hour |
3 min |
100(sections)*30(m)/60(meters/hour) |
200 connectors*3min |
While the non-terminated cables appeared preferable, both in terms of installation time and costs (a pre-terminated cable is more expensive and often longer than needed), the choiche went to pre-terminated cables, because field-mounted connectors weren't reliable.
By using plastic fiber, it discovered that a work which required 10 working days could be carried out in less then 4 days:
|
Laying time |
Termination time |
Total laying time |
Total termination time |
| Plastic fiber |
100 meters/hour |
>0,5 min |
100(sections)*30(m)/100(meters/hour) = 30 hours |
200 connectors*0,5min = 1,6 hours |
