POF - Plastic Optical Fiber Manufacturing

Luceat developed and sells the know-how to manufacture high-quality PMMA plastic optical fiber.

Our proprietary process is based on fiber drawing, giving much greater flexibility than standard extrusion processes.

Our drawing towers can make Plastic Optical Fiber with diameters ranging from 0.18mm to 2.00mm. For special applications, profiles other than circular (even squared) are possible.

Cladding deposition is performed online, further enhancing flexibility and allowing the use of different cladding materials. Our drawing towers are equipped with charge sensors, laser XY diameter measurement, inverter-controlled motors and a touch-screen control panel.
The manufacturing process is completely automated: no human intervention is required, except at the beginning and at the end of the drawing process.

We sell both the know-how to manufacture POF or turn-key drawing towers, complete with a course by one of our trained technicians for installation and operations of the facility.

We also provide knowledge and facilities to manufacture PMMA preform rods. Since our process doesn't use interfacial polymerisation, it guarantees very high purity and the ability to manufacture doped preforms as well (i.e. preforms containing co-monomers as well as MMA).

We also sell custom-designed instruments to characterise plastic optical fiber, such as attenuation measurement analyzers (to measure the attenuation of any POF in the range 400nm - 700nm), refractive index profilometers (to measure the index profile of the fibre on a 2D plane) and NA measurement bench (to measure the directivity diagram of POF).
